Aaron Carpenter Gives RAW Interview

AARON CARPENTER
RAW: How has social media influenced your career?
AARON: Well, it started it. Wouldn’t be sitting in this chair without it.

RAW: Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to grow their social media audience?
AARON: It’s kind of cliché to say but… be genuine. Be original and think out of the box. And go for it, don’t half go for it. Fully go for it!

RAW: What was it like growing up in Louisiana?
AARON: I’m up from North Louisiana, Shreveport. I grew up wanting to be in the country scene but I knew deep down I’m like, “Nah, I’m a city boy for sure.” But I love Louisiana. It’s my heart, it’s my home. I love going back.

RAW: You and Cameron Dallas are best friends. What’s best advice he’s given you along the way?
AARON: Same advice I’ve passed along--just be original. I do what I like, not what other people are telling me to do.

RAW: Have you always wanted to be a musician?
AARON: I grew up around music; my family was very music oriented. My mom is an incredible singer and my brother’s an incredible musician. I’m the youngest of three. I have an older brother and an older sister. And they’ve all influenced me.

RAW: Who are some of your all-time favorite musicians and who are some of your newer ones?
AARON: All-time favorite musician right now is Bruno Mars. He’s an incredible performer and entertainer and incredibly talented. Justin Timberlake is also incredible. And some newer artists--Khalid’s dope. Alessia Cara is incredible, and DJ’s such as Zedd, Kygo, all those guys! Calvin Harris!

RAW: Where’s your favorite place to write your music?
AARON: Like when I have the house to myself because [Cameron Dallas] is my roommate, and when I’m home alone, I like to write there outside.

RAW: Do you kind of let Cameron know like, “Yo, let me have my space,”?
AARON: Well, we also have our own schedules going on so we cross paths here and then we have this time and then we cross paths again. So during the day we’re usually doing our own thing and if I need the house to myself, I mean, never have I ever been like, “Yo, leave,” (laughs). Just any kind of space where I can relax. I like writing outside a lot.

RAW: What’s the funniest prank you’ve ever pulled on someone?
AARON: It was my friend Caleb’s birthday. Derek [Luh] was in town, and me and Cam were texting Caleb like, “Yo happy birthday! What do you want for your birthday?” And he was like, “Just prank Derek.” We had just gotten back from Europe and Australia and he lost the odds to shave his head, like one line down the middle, and then he ended up shaving his entire head. But his hair had just grown back all in, and we shaved a line right here! (points at his head) And he didn’t know until he woke up. So, we shaved his head in his sleep, and he was really upset at first, but like, once he found out it was for Caleb’s birthday he was like, “Okay, that’s fine.” (laughs)

RAW: Where’s the best place to take someone on a first date?
AARON: I’m pretty simple. I’ll go out to a nice dinner, go to a movie, or just walk around (laughs) I don’t know, just chill. Beach?

RAW: What would you never do in a million years?
AARON: I’m not trying to think of anything nasty! Skydive without a parachute? I wouldn’t do that! (laughs) ᴿᴬᵂ
